The Elderly And Chiropractic Care
It is common knowledge that throughout life we go through minor or even major injuries. But nature – being as powerful as it is – we heal. However, we rarely heal 100%.
So decade by decade small problems accumulate and linger. As we age we experience more disability or reduced ability. Aging specialists have determined that INFLAMMATION is the principal cause of aging. Reducing inflammation is how to delay this process. Chiropractic care helps to reduce inflammation.
Chiropractic is known worldwide as a profession that helps restore ability, prevents disability, and eliminates much of the pain that could potentially ruin our days, our months, our lives. The reason people have learned to appreciate and respect that special role chiropractors bring to our families and to the ones that we love that are aging, is to help them live more meaningful active lives and reduce their overall need for medication. Truly a good thing!
Some of the most common conditions that the elderly suffer, yet can have much relief and reduce much medications, are as follows:
- Degenerative Arthritis
- Osteoarthritis
- Slipped discs
- Sciatica
- Numbness in the hands, arms or legs
- Digestive disorders
- Constipation
- Headaches and migraines
- Neck pain and back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Knee pain and wrist pain
How does chiropractic help the elderly? By performing spinal manipulation, or adjusting of the bones of the spine to bring back normal or near normal function of these joints.
Also, spinal misalignments affect nerves causing pain and internal organ dysfunction. Making gentle and necessary corrections help relieve these issues or even restore proper function like constipation.
And even though much of what we suffer as we get older may never be restored, it doesn’t mean we have to be suffering all the time and live with increasing impairment and disability. That is the promise that Chiropractic can deliver.
I like this expression: “Sick and tired of being sick and tired?” Chiropractic maybe the solution you have been looking for. Like they also say: “Chiropractic brings years to life and life to years.”

12/07/2017 at 2:02 pmI like that you talked about how a chiropractor can help seniors by performing spinal manipulation or adjusting of the bones of the spine to make sure a normal function of these joints without so many medications. My grandmother often complains of back pain. It’s important for us to help her get a relief so she can do her daily routine without any discomfort. Now that I’m aware how a chiropractor can help my grandmother to restore her normal mobility, I will make sure to visit a chiropractor with her as soon as possible.

12/14/2017 at 2:04 amI have suffered from slipped disc since 2001. The nerve doctor required me to undergo MRI of the spine and found that I have slipped disc on my third, fourth and fifth lumbar area. The last time I underwent physical therapy treatment was in 2009. Now I am having pain in my lower back and have difficulty moving and especially when I need to bend own and when standing up or getting up from my bed. I have constant back and shoulder pain, numbness and pain in my elbows, wrist, fingers and pain radiating from my lower back down to my thighs, knees and legs and also night cramps to my legs and toes/feet. Could chiropractic treatment cure/address these pains I am suffering? How much will the whole package of treatment cost?

12/20/2017 at 6:52 pmDear Teri, Thank you for reaching out. Spinal problems require care and management, not treatment, which implies a cure. That is the first lesson to learn. Chiropractic works with the body’s natural healing processes so the outcome depends on each person’s potential for healing. That is determined by an experienced Doctor of Chiropractic once he/she has performed a complete consultation, examination and now is in a position to answer the question of time and money to help you. However, it sounds like your condition is chronic with an acute flare up and is possibly only mildly complex and we normally get great results with chiropractic methods.
