Ways to avoid getting sick.
How is it that when the body is exposed to a germ (virus or bacteria or other pathogen) not everybody gets sick? Scientists concluded that the average human body contains approximately 37.2 trillion cells. The human body also contains trillions of microorganisms — outnumbering human cells by 10 to 1. Of course, your body will have more or fewer cells than that total, depending upon how your size compares to the average human being, but that’s a good starting point for estimating the number of cells in your own body! They say germs are what makes us sick but is that the whole truth? If that was true according to that statement then everyone of us would always be sick.
Oh, then we are told that there are friendly germs, so only some of them make you sick. Still, if that is true, wouldn’t we all come down with that disease when exposed to it? You already know the answer to that… not everyone gets sick when exposed to unhealthy microorganisms and that is because we have a functioning immune system that naturally defends us from that. Take this to the next logical step, then the real difference between healthy people and sick people is determined by how strong is their immune system. Now we are getting somewhere and the answer to “ways to avoid getting sick” is to focus on staying healthy and maintaining a strong natural immune system.
Best advise to start on this subject can be summarized by this now famous quote by docMIKE: “My problems are the result of doing too many of the wrong things and not enough of the right things.” Apply that to your relationships and your finances and it explains itself; so why don’t we apply this truth to our health? Short answer: it’s because the wrong things that we do today only have delayed consequences when performed over years and years. We have bad habits that we do mostly everyday but because we don’t feel the negative effects immediately, we think we are getting away with it… until the cumulative effect starts to become noticeable. Then, even worse, that is met with alibis, excuses and denials, allowing things to continue until they become intolerable.
That hurts to read because we can all personally relate to that truth.
They say that the difference between an optimist and a pessimist is how they see the glass being half full or half empty. We can self examine ourselves and recognize that when it comes to healthy habits, there is room for improvement. If you view this positively, the solutions will magically appear before your eyes; you will unconsciously seek out guidance to fill your glass with more information to get fit and healthy. More so, you will start changing your friends and hang out with others who support your new self image of seeking to be that healthy person and start picking up on their good habits quite easily.
To the contrary, if you don’t believe you can change, then you will rationalize all your bad habits, stay with the same crowd that supports you in those bad habits and remain an unhealthy and eventually sickly person. The 2020 pandemic is only killing sick people. Why would anyone want to stay unhealthy in this day and age of uncertainty??? Actually, there is more certainty than ever before that the next virus could kill you if you stay unhealthy. Truth, it is time for truth, time to accept the truth and switch your spots into stripes; become the positive, proactive person your family needs you to be so you can still be around to support and care for those you love. Be a part of the solution and not part of the problem, is another way to put it.
