The amazing thing about health is that it is NOT an accident, but for that matter, neither is sickness an accident. When you read this statement it should evoke both a sense of mortality and a sense of positive power that you still have the choice to be healthy Vs the choice by default to get sick.
In most cases when chronic disease is the problem, preventing an individual from experiencing the full force of a fit and healthy body, it’s really due from doing too many of the Wrong things and not enough of the Right things. We fail ourselves when it comes to health matters because of the way we think and because we are not focused on health. Failure is the inevitable result of an accumulation of poor thinking and poor choices. Failure is nothing more than a few errors in judgment repeated every day.
So why would someone make an error in judgment and then be so foolish as to repeat it every day? The answer is because he or she does not think that it matters because we escape any immediate consequences of our deeds. Those who eat too many of the wrong foods are contributing to a future health problem, but the joy of the moment overshadows the consequence of the future.
It does not seem to matter.
- Those who don’t exercise, smoke too much or drink too much go on making these poor choices year after year after year… because it doesn’t seem to matter.
- But the pain and regret of these errors in judgment have only been delayed for a future time; at present there is no apparent consequence to deter the acts.
Consequences are seldom instant; instead, they accumulate until the inevitable day of reckoning finally arrives and the price must be paid for our poor choice, choices that didn’t seem to matter.
But we must become better educated than that!
Failure’s most dangerous attribute is its subtlety. Since nothing terrible happens to us and it seemed to have no measurable consequence, it is probably safe to repeat. It is imperative that we refine our personal philosophies in order to be able to make better choices. With a powerful, personal philosophy guiding our every step, we become more aware of our errors in judgment and more aware that each error really does matter, both in the short and the long run.
The opportunity for health is ALWAYS just around the corner for someone who is willing to stop making excuses and ready to make the right changes. After all, the present is the full total of your past thinking and actions. The future hasn’t happened but your opportunity for a better life, a healthier life lies in your immediate future; in the thoughts and actions you make in the next 6 days, 6 weeks and 6 months.
Action steps can be found in the large number of short articles found in this blog. Please make good use of it. Don’t just read one or two, but take the time to read each and every piece in this blog. Your immediate future will be guided into a series of positive actions, but most of all it will guide you into a new reality of thought and a new reality for your future. Get well! Be Well and Stay Well!
