UST Medical Student Assembly on Alternatives
As part of the University of Santo Thomas’ Medical Student’s training program they created a day dedicated to Alternative Health Services, such as Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Herbology and Massage. They searched for Chiropractic online and discovered Mabuhay Chiropractic. Upon contacting our marketing department they presented their invitation to address their 2nd year Medical Student Class on the topic of Chiropractic.
On Friday, November 18th, 2016 Mark Robson, spokesman for Mabuhay Chiropractic Clinics, presented a dynamic and inspiring session to the UST Medical Students.
Topics ranged from the history, Philosophy and techniques of chiropractic; the education, value and benefits; working relationships with the medical profession and integration of chiropractic as a valuable primary health care provider in society. Some demonstrations were shown at the end of the session showing how we examined the spine and demonstrating how muscles weakened even with head positioning compromising existing nerve pressure from subluxations. (no actual spinal adjusting was demonstrated).
Overall it was a well received presentation and the attendants remained highly engaged throughout the entire session. This was a valuable educational outreach into the Manila community promoting the brand of Mabuhay Chiropractic providing better understanding of who we are, what we do and the value and benefits for everyone.
As a progressive sign of patient centered care, it is important for medical students to better understand the role of alternative practitioners. Today’s healthcare environment has evolved form the days when the doctor was expected to have all the answers. The age of information and technology brings anatomy and physiology and pathology to the everyday person through the internet. Doctors today are expected to know why their patients seek alternatives to medications and surgery.
Since the chiropractic is the world’s largest non-drug and nonsurgical profession, the public should expect their family doctors to have a working knowledge of chiropractic and other alternative healthcare professions.
